History

The creation of the Agency was started by the "Republican Rehabilitation Centre" (RRC), founded in 1991, aimed at vocational training and re-training of disabled people, providing medical, social education, psychologist and medical assistance, as well as leisure facilities.

In 1992 the Ministry of Walfare and specialists of the Hamburg Centre for Residental Training jointly developed a concept regarding the establishment of a vocational rehabilitation centre for persons with disabilities in Latvia. Thus in Latvia was started the establishment of a vocational rehabilitation system, which is typical in Germany and Austria - centralised and specialised institutions with national or regional importance. A vocational rehabilitation centre was built. In September 1992 40 students started training in specialities - electronic equipment technician and commercial business worker. In 2002 the name of the "RRC" was changed to "College RRC".

At the time the State undertaking "Health centre "Jaundubulti"" (founded on 3 March 1986 as a sanatorium), was also located in Jūrmala. "Health centre "Jaundubulti"" provided social rehabilitation services financed by the State (medical baths, medical showers, physical therapy, massage, physiotherapist, ergotherapist, psychologist etc.). On 15 April 2004 the State Agency "Social Integration Centre" was established by a joint of two institutions - "College RRC" and "Health centre "Jaundubulti"", promoting social integration of disabled persons and persons with disabilities as an operational objective. On 12 April 2008 the name of the State Agency was changed to the Social Integration State Agency.
